The Journey: motorcyclist The Journey: aftermath of the crash The Journey: police community support officer

The Journey

  • Client University of Lancashire
  • Role Director, camera, edit
  • Year 2025

A short film for the university's nursing offer-holder days and open days. It sets up a real crash scenario that prospective nursing students talk through afterwards, so it had to hit hard in a few minutes.

I led a small cast and crew, planned the shoot, filmed and edited it. I also made two offer-holder films that the university used as marketing at its events, to show people why they should choose the nursing course.

Don't Turn Around: the figure behind her Don't Turn Around: underwater Don't Turn Around: earphones in

Don't Turn Around

  • Type Short horror film
  • Role Director, camera, edit
  • Views 44K+ on YouTube

A girl alone in the kitchen at night, earphones in. Something is behind her, and the film never lets you settle.

I built the tension with composition, a cold blue grade and sound design. It won an award for its cinematography and has been watched over 44,000 times.

Ring: the delivery driver Ring: the doorbell

Ring

  • Type Spec ad, not commissioned
  • Role Concept, shoot, edit
  • Length 43 seconds
  • Year 2026

A TV-style ad for the Ring Video Doorbell with Alexa+, built around one doorstep and the deliveries that turn up at it.

I planned it, found the location, shot it and edited it to broadcast length, then finished it with end cards in Ring's own style so it sits next to the real thing.

YoungLA: portrait in a beanie YoungLA: training in an underpass

YoungLA

  • Type Spec ad, not commissioned
  • Role Concept, shoot, edit
  • Year 2025

A concept ad for the gym-wear brand. I wanted it to look like their world: black and white, night, street lights and concrete underpasses, with the clothes doing the talking.

Short-form series

  • Type Vertical video, 8 episodes
  • Role Script, presenting, camera, edit
  • Year 2026

An eight-part series for Instagram and TikTok, made for a web-design idea of mine aimed at tradespeople. Each one is under 30 seconds and does one job: a problem, a free tip, or who I am. I wrote the scripts, presented to camera on location, and cut them with animated captions and on-screen graphics. Tap a video for sound.

Lime Bar: flamed cocktail Lime Bar Lounge from outside Lime Bar: DJ set Lime Bar: neon sign Lime Bar: busy bar Lime Bar: guests

Lime Bar Lounge

  • Client Lime Bar Lounge, Penwortham
  • Type Paid event photography
  • Year 2024

I was working there collecting glasses when they booked me to photograph a full night instead: the bar, the DJ, the drinks and the guests.

Low, purple light and a packed room. Most of the job was working fast without flash killing the atmosphere.

Chilli on fire Dior Sauvage with a rain rig Armani Code with blue rim light Colour series: red Cosmetics on cut colour Behind the scenes: setting up the colour series

Product and still life

  • Type Studio photography
  • Kit Sony A7 III, two LED panels, coloured paper

Photography is where I started, and still life is the bit I keep coming back to: one object, one light, and getting the reflections right.

The colour series builds a whole frame out of food that matches the backdrop. The fragrance shots are about light: rain on glass for Sauvage, a hard rim for Armani Code. The chilli was set on fire for real.

Campaigns

Concept campaigns for made-up brands. For each one I set a brief, found an insight about the audience, built the idea and the key pieces, and set targets to measure it against.

Pocket poster: Week six is comingPocket app screens

Pocket

Brief
Get first-year students to install a free budgeting app during freshers'.
Insight
Around week six the loan runs low. Every student knows the joke. "Budgeting" sounds like homework; beating week six sounds like a challenge.
Idea
Name the problem, not the product. Creators share their week-six stories and the app gives you one daily number to get through it.
Re:Sole poster: Your trainers have more miles in themRe:Sole email and swing tag

Re:Sole

Brief
Get people to repair or trade in trainers instead of binning them.
Insight
Most trainers aren't thrown away because they're worn out. They're thrown away because they look tired.
Idea
Treat trainers like cars: they have mileage, and a repair adds more.

Leon Neal that's me

About

I'm Leon. I started out making short clips on a GoPro and a digital camera, then taught myself Premiere Pro, After Effects and DaVinci Resolve because I wanted them to look better.

Since then I've made films for a university, photographed a bar's big night, shot spec ads for brands I like and built a few things of my own. I care about the details people don't notice until they're wrong: sound, colour and pacing.

Right now I work full time as a team member at the KFC in a Welcome Break services, and I'm working towards team leader. I'm looking for my next step in content, film, media or marketing: apprenticeships, junior roles and freelance shoots.

More about me is on LinkedIn.

  1. Welcome Break (KFC)Team member. Front-of-house service, middle of house across the fryers, food safety, QPM and waste systems. Working towards team leader.

  6. Meta HQ, CaliforniaI came up with practical uses for VR, including ways it could support the response to the Turkey–Syria earthquakes, and presented them at Meta.
